This policy explains how Rob Thomson, REALTOR®, licensed with Real Broker, collects, uses and protects personal information through robthomson.ca and related services. It is written to meet Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.

What we collect

  • Information you give us: your name, email, phone number, property address, details about your property and timeline, and any message you send.
  • Identity verification information if you list with us. Real estate licensees must verify client identity under federal anti-money-laundering law (FINTRAC).
  • Website usage information: pages visited, device and browser type, and general location, collected through cookies and similar tools.

How we use it

  • To answer your questions and prepare home value estimates.
  • To provide real estate services you ask for, including listing and selling a property.
  • To meet legal and regulatory obligations, including FINTRAC record keeping and the rules of the real estate regulators in Alberta and BC.
  • To send you market updates or other information, only if you have agreed to receive them. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To understand how the website is used and to measure and improve our advertising.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed with:

  • Real Broker, the brokerage Rob is licensed with, as required to provide real estate services and keep required records.
  • Service providers that help us run the website and respond to you, including Squarespace (website), HubSpot (contact management and forms), Tidio (website chat) and identity verification providers. These providers may store information outside your province or outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of those places.
  • Advertising and analytics partners such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google, which may use cookies or pixels to measure ad results and show relevant ads.
  • Regulators, law enforcement or others when required by law.

Cookies and advertising

This site uses cookies and similar technologies, including the Meta Pixel and Google tags, to understand site traffic and to measure and personalize ads. You can control cookies in your browser settings, and you can manage ad preferences in your Facebook, Instagram and Google account settings.

Home value tool

The Calgary home value tool looks up publicly available City of Calgary assessment data for the address you enter. Assessed values are for property tax purposes and are not an appraisal. If you submit the form, the address and assessed value are included so Rob can follow up with a market estimate.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. FINTRAC and real estate regulations require some records to be kept for at least five years.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to marketing at any time, subject to legal and contractual limits. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information, including access controls and reputable service providers. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
